  The Bench-Bar Conference for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014. In response to the positive comments regarding the event venue, the Bench-Bar Conference will again be held at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio. The program will be attendedas in past conferencesby the bankruptcy judges and a wide range of bankruptcy practitioners from all three court locations and surrounding communities. Other court personnel, including courtroom deputies/judicial assistants and law clerks, will be present and involved in the discussions. Support personnel are welcome to attend, as many of the discussion topics affect their jobs and their ability to assist you. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:00 a.m., and the conference will open promptly at 9:00 a.m.

As in past years, the content of this year’s program is the product of a collaboration between the bench and the bar. The morning session will consist of views from three distinct vantage pointsthe bench, the bar and both panel trustees and U.S. Trustee. The judges will be “Pulling Back the Curtain,” while the bar will present “Welcome to Our World.” And not to be outdone, the trustees will present “Don’t Forget About Us.” Each session will focus on what each group is experiencing in the ever-changing world of bankruptcy. Up nextUpdates from Around the Districtwith highlights to include: Rule Changes on the Horizon, Pro Bono Programs (Columbus & Dayton), Rescue Committee (Columbus) and UFTA.

The afternoon program will be devoted to a combined breakout session for Chapters 7 and 13, as well as a Chapter 11 breakout session. The combined consumer session will consist of three panel discussions: Life After Bankruptcy, Chapter 13 Issues in Practice and ABCs of Contempt, while the Chapter 11 session will offer three panel discussions: Receivership, ABCs and § 363 Sales, Stern/Arkison Issues and Preference Defense Update.

The conference is open to all lawyers and trustees who appear before the Court and to their support staff. The registration deadline is October 16, 2014. A registration form must be returned for each person attending. Please be sure to retain a copy for your records.
