Entry Requirements and Electronics Policy

Courthouse Entry Requirements

Visitors to the Court must adhere to the entry requirements for each specific courthouse. Please review the following before visiting the Court.

  1. No weapons are allowed on the premises.
  2. Unauthorized cameras or recording devices are prohibited.
  3. Photo Identification.

    All persons are required to provide a government-issued photo identification before being allowed entry to the Court. Any person without acceptable identification will be denied access to the Court.

  4. Screening.

    All persons are subject to screening by the United States Marshals Service Court Security Officers in accordance with General Order 10-2 prior to entering the court. All belongings will be required to pass through an x-ray machine and are subject to a search.

The following items are strictly prohibited:

  • Firearms
  • Explosives
  • Knives
  • Any other dangerous weapons or items prohibited by law, regulation, or court order

Any person refusing to submit to this screening process will be denied access to the courthouse. As set forth in the Court’s General Order 10-2, a person violating the security procedures of the Court is subject to arrest and may be charged with any applicable criminal offence or contempt of court. Property brought into the Court locations or used in violation of Court orders is subject to confiscation and forfeiture upon court order.

Electronics Policy

Visitors to the Court are also required to adhere to the Court’s policies regarding, and permissible uses of cell phones and other electronics in the courthouse. Please review these policies before attending Court.

  1. Cell phones & laptops.

    Cell phones, laptops, and related electronic equipment are permitted on the premises subject to the restrictions set forth in General Order 10-2. See also LBR 5073–1. Cell phones may be used in the public hallways, provided such use does not disrupt courtroom or other official proceedings. Cell phones may not be used in the courtroom or chambers unless specifically authorized by the presiding judge. Cell phones must be in silent mode at all times.

  2. Cameras and Recording Devices Prohibited.

    The Court strictly forbids any person from operating a camera or other recording device on any floor of a bankruptcy courthouse where judicial proceedings are being conducted. Any person taking unauthorized photos or recordings is subject to arrest and confiscation of the device and related images or recordings.

  3. Attorney Electronic Devices.

    Attorneys are permitted to keep in their possession laptop computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices commonly used to conduct business activities. Attorneys may use those devices in the courthouse so long as such use does not disrupt courtroom or other official proceedings. By way of illustration, the ringing of a cell phone in a courtroom while proceedings are being conducted is considered disruptive.
